THE BURMA BANKS-MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO/MYANMAR

BURMA BANK
The Burma Banks are a series of large underwater flat-topped sea-mounts. These mountains rise very gradually from the depths and are covered with hard coral growth and large patches of sand. It is easy to have a good chance of seeing sharks.  The main attraction is silver tip sharks.
 
 
 
 
BLACK ROCK

It is a single rock in the middle of nowhere, south west side steep slope, north east side shallow covered by corals. It is one of the most spectacular dive sites in Mergui Archipelago  with an excellent variety of reef life and abundance of large pelagics including Silvertips, Gray reef sharks, Blacktips, Bull sharks, Eagle and Manta rays. There are beautiful soft coral formations in the deeper areas. One thing that is guaranteed to see, it is Linard goby.

 
 
 
 
SHARK CAVE

There are 3 small islets which the largest center islet at 100 meters wide. It is the resident of nurse sharks, several grey reef sharks, long-fin trevellay and silver sweetlips.  The tunnel is 20 meters long and ceiling is covered in beautiful marigold cup corals and the floors is covered by yellow Stylotella Aurantium Sponge. Groups of white tip reef sharks can also make a surprising appearance.

The small rocky outcrop to the north lies in 26 metres of water and has a smaller sister pinnacle just to its south. Its walls have green and orange Antipathes black corals, and white Anthothelidae sea fans. The southern outcrop is slightly deeper at 30 metres, and hosts olive green Theonella Cylindrica sponges and anemones with their attendant anemone crabs and saddleback anemonefish. 

 
 
 
 
WESTERN ROCKY

It is one of the most beautiful dive sites in Myanmar consisting of 2 parts, the main island and the pinnacles with the coral garden

A small barren island, perhaps 60 m wide, the southern wall is split by a tunnel five metres below the surface. The passage entrance runs for 30 m from a maximum depth of 24 m and opens out through a small exit hole onto the north side's fringing reef at a depth of 21 m. There is also a large archway to the west of the tunnel entrance, that provides an easy swim-through, and there are four small pinnacles to the east of the main island. It is home to hundreds of painted spiny lobsters and some playful nurse sharks. Cuttlefishes and big reef squid are common, and giant fusiliers sweep over the reef, made up of large flower corals and yellow featherstars.
